Day 18 | Flotilla to Alaska | Foggy Bay to Ketchikan

We staggered our departure times this morning. The two lead boats headed out first at 6:00 a.m., and the rest followed, two boats at 6:30 a.m. and the last two at 7:00 a.m. This sequence would allow the lead boats to fuel up, get into their slips, and be available to catch lines for the others as they got their slip assignments.

Leaving Foggy Bay

We had a beautiful, calm cruise up to Ketchikan today.

Ralph on Jester pulled in to Petro Marine just as Airship was leaving, and John and Roberta on Nereus arrived at the Crowley fuel dock soon after Safe Harbour departed. We love it when a plan comes together!

Arrival in Ketchikan can be a bit of a culture shock after a week or so exploring the more remote areas of the Northern Coast of BC. Cruise ships, float planes, fishing boats, tour boats, kayaks, and inflatables filled with whalewatchers and tourists zip through the harbor every which way and it can be a lot to keep track of, especially if you’ve never visited by boat and don’t know the area.

We got everyone in and tied up in their slips (scattered between Bar Harbor North and South), and immediately walked into town to stretch our legs.

We’ll be in Ketchikan for a few days doing chores, picking up packages, reprovisioning, and exploring the city.
