Day 8 | West Side of Vancouver Island Flotilla | North Harbour to Winter Harbour

The meteorologists called for another stormy day today. They were right. The rain began falling around 9:00 a.m. and didn’t let up for more than a few minutes all day. Although the wind didn’t make it into North Harbour or Winter Harbour, the reports from Solander Island weren’t encouraging. Sustained winds in the 30s, with gusts near 40. A good day to stay off the ocean.

Since our progress has been slower than expected and we’ve now been gone for a week without access to fresh water or garbage, we moved a few miles from the anchorage in North Harbour to the public dock in Winter Harbour. We could dump garbage, fill up water tanks, pick up a few provisions at The Outpost, and stretch our legs on shore.

Most of us had a lazy day, catching up on reading and movie watching in between a few chores.

We met on Airship for rice bowl night (white and brown rice, a variety of veggie toppings, grilled marinated pork and fish, and several sauces). Rice bowl night is a new addition to theme dinners this year, and it’s a keeper! Versatile, and delicious!

Julie and David (SV Dog Star) made homemade blinis for us to top with creme fraiche and homemade Ikura (Japanese-style salmon roe, from one of the cohos Kevin caught) as an appetizer:

The owners of The Outpost brought a complimentary bottle of prosecco to each boat, which was a very nice gesture…thanks so much!

Tomorrow we’re hoping to leave Quatsino Sound and make it around Brooks Peninsula. Hopefully the wind will die as predicted!
