Angoon, AK

Angoon is a Tlingit town on the NW side of Admiralty Island. The entrance to Angoon has strong currents. The marina has limited space, but anchorage is available at the end of Favorite Bay. Kootznoowoo Inlet North of town is great to explore by (fast) dinghy, but beware very rapid currents except at slack. Angoon is known as the “Fortress of Brown Bears” and is home to the highest density of brown bears in North America.

Slowboat Tips and Activities

Entry/Exit Hazards

The entrance to Angoon Harbor via “Danger Point” has rapid currents, check current/tide tables. It is best to enter near slack, although we have entered as much as 1.5-2 hours before/after. The dock is mainly designed for smaller boats, but has a bit of linear moorage that can accomodate one or two larger vessels. It is best to call ahead.
