Airship | Red Bay and Snug Harbor

Last Friday we cruised from Portage Bay into Petersburg for a few days to wait out some super rainy weather. Dave and his brother Kyle (from Turnagain) flew home from Petersburg, and we’re on our own now. We left Petersburg late in the day on Sunday and anchored in Red Bay. On Monday it was still quite rainy, but Kevin went out fishing anyway to see if there were any … Read more

Day 23 | 2025 Flotilla to Alaska | Kasaan to Thorne Bay

Off the Kasaan public dock this morning around 7:30! Calm water and hardly any wind made for a very chill cruise up to Thorne Bay. As we were first heading out, we noticed our new friend Skip in his skiff out fishing, so we detoured a little bit to say goodbye and see ya next time! Day 22 | 2025 Flotilla to Alaska | Ketchikan to Kasaan

We’ve been visiting Kasaan on our own (and once with a small … Read more

Day 21 | 2024 Flotilla to Alaska | Meyers Chuck

Today’s weather was mainly rainy and windy and we were pretty happy to be tied at a dock with good scenery all around us (and three different float plane landings/takeoffs right here in the chuck as daytime entertainment!). We hiked when it wasn’t too nasty out, and enjoyed the coziness of the insides of our boats the rest of the time. This Cessna landed, picked up people over at the … Read more

Day 17 | Alaska Flotilla Leg 3 | Tolstoi Bay to Ketchikan

The 34nm route today from Tolstoi Bay to Ketchikan crosses Clarence Strait and transits south down Tongass Narrows. Traffic increases exponentially as we near the “big city”  — cruise ships, tour boats, float planes, ferries, fishing boats, pleasure boats, and so on. The rest of the group headed for the docks at Bar Harbor (closest to groceries and laundry), while Airship found a spot at city floats in town. Kevin’s … Read more
