Wind and rain buffeted our boats overnight in Appleton Cove, but this morning the wind had died down somewhat, and the rain had mainly stopped as we pulled anchors and headed for Sitka. We woke this morning in Sitka to….SUN!!! Sure, there are still some clouds, but one whole part of the sky was just BLUE. We pulled out of Baby Bear Bay this morning around 8:30am so we’d arrive at Sergius Narrows near slack with some time to spare. We got a nice push on the way there, but first, right outside of our anchorage we were treated to this fantastic show by a lone Pacific white-sided dolphin. So much fun watching it leap and twist! Another morning waking up to bright sun! We departed Sitka with with blue skies, flat water, and a nice view of Mt. Edgecumbe. As we headed north in Neva Strait, we spotted a bear on the west shore. This morning’s alarm was set for 4am (!!!) and we all left Deep Bay in time to catch slack at Sergius Narrows (4:50am, about 30 minutes from Deep Bay). Sitka skies this morning were mostly gray and cloudy, but the wind was light and it wasn’t raining. We left the harbor by about 6:30 a.m., timing our arrival at Sergius Narrows for near slack (9:48a.m.).
