Day 5 | 2025 Flotilla to Alaska | Campbell River to Small Inlet

A nice leisurely morning at Campbell River! We slept in a bit, and left the dock by 8:30am.

Leaving Campbell River this morning

Slack at Seymour Narrows was 9:54am, and we had a little current against us until then, and not a bad cruise at all up to Kanish Bay/Small Inlet.

Wind in Johnstone was NW 15-25kts mostly on the nose, gusting occasionally to 30kts, with a 1-2 ft chop that was not at all unpleasant. We turned into Kanish Bay and passed the spot we usually anchor behind the Chained Islands, and cruised all the way back into Small Inlet. We knew it would still be windy back here, but certainly we’ll be less affected by the current and fetch closer to Johnstone. The scenery is beautiful, and it is definitely still very windy. We’ve seen gusts up to 35 knots (!!!) but then it’ll chill out down to single digits. Very gusty, but we’re all secure and the anchors set well. Might be a noisy night, however!

Everyone gathered on Airship for taco night! Super fun evening with a fantastic group of people!

Tomorrow we plan to aim for Forward Harbour, likely bugging out of Johnstone Strait early and taking the back way through Greene Point and Whirlpool Rapids, rather than beating into wind that’s forecast to be the same as today. Slack at Greene Point is around 9:30am, and Greene Point is 19nm from Small Inlet, so 2.5 to 3 hours cruise, so we’ll probably leave early (6:30am or earlier, to take advantage of hopefully less wind in the morning).
