We left Tracy Arm Cove around 6am for an earlyish arrival into Juneau today. The further north we got, the brighter it got, and pretty soon we could even see some very pale blue skies ahead.

Approaching Juneau…blue skies!!!

We all got space in either Harris or Aurora harbors, and set out for some exploring. We rented a car again from Turo, and did a little drive out to Mendenhall Glacier. We didn’t stop and hike out to the falls this time because it was absolutely PACKED with cruise ship tourists, but we did get a couple quick photos.

Next we continued out past Auke Bay and up toward the Shrine of St. Therese to get a nice view of Lynn Canal and the Chilkat mountain range (with a bonus of a humpback or two spouting across the canal).

After that, we headed downtown and parked so we could walk around town a bit. We stopped at the Sealaska Heritage Store, the Alaska Robotics Gallery, and then the Amalga Distillery. We sat and sipped a very refreshing (and beautiful) Rhubarb Gin and Tonic. Last summer we were hoping to pick up a few of their canned versions of this, but they were sold out. Apparently they’re usually sold out, but this time we were in luck and got to bring some back to the boat!

We next met for our final group flotilla dinner at the Twisted Fish Company. Another fun night with this group!

We’ll all be in Juneau for a couple days, and then some folks will head over to Glacier Bay, some flying home for a visit and then back, another continuing on with more Alaska exploring. We’ve got friends joining us on Airship for a cruise back down to Tracy Arm and Ford’s Terror, and then we’ll come back to Juneau again after that. We’ll keep posting as we continue our travels (just probably not every day). 🙂
