Airship | Kent Inlet

We arrived at Kent Inlet on Princess Royal Island a bit before slack for Philip Narrows, but there was little to no current to worry about. (We were at a 17ft high yesterday and had about 22ft under us at the shallowest spot.)

(L) Zoom in on chart showing Philip Narrows, (R) Kent Inlet with marker where we anchored at th ehead of the inlet

We dropped our anchor in the far head of the bay where we’d dropped before, near the small waterfall, then immediately got out in the dinghy to take a look at the entrance to the larger lake. The tide was the highest we’ve seen it in the three times we’ve been here, but still not high (or calm) enough to take a peek into the lake by dinghy.

Difficult to see in this photo, but the lake is still about a foot less than the water outside (plus, quite a bit of current)

Kevin went out fishing for a while and came back just before dinner with a nice looking coho!

A very calm evening in Kent Inlet…we saw no bears, but there were lots of salmon jumping near the waterfall. We did notice a game cam strapped to a tree up at the head of the bay (probably to watch for and record bear activity). Another boat came in to anchor and we talked to one of the guys (checking out the waterfall by kayak) who said they got amazing photos of a spirit bear and cubs (!!!) on a past visit here. I think we need to stay longer next time to give ourselves more of a chance. One of these days.

Quiet evening in Kent Inlet

In the morning the fog was back as we pulled our anchors. Check out all the foam near the entrance to the lake where Missie and Russ anchored…that’s about a 6-8ft wall of rocks now.

Melissa Lynn anchored near the lake entrance

We exited Philip Narrows on about a 5ft tide (and falling, but still a couple hours until low). We had 12 feet underneath us at the shallowest point with a few knots of current pushing us out, but nothing very dramatic.

Not long after we entered Laredo Channel, four Dall’s porpoises came to surf Airship’s bow wake for a bit. Always fun!

Our route so far this morning has been very foggy with not much scenery, so I’m guessing we won’t have any more photos until the fog burns off.
