Day 21 | 2024 Flotilla to Alaska | Meyers Chuck

Today’s weather was mainly rainy and windy and we were pretty happy to be tied at a dock with good scenery all around us (and three different float plane landings/takeoffs right here in the chuck as daytime entertainment!). We hiked when it wasn’t too nasty out, and enjoyed the coziness of the insides of our boats the rest of the time.

This Cessna landed, picked up people over at the dock in front of the post office, took them somewhere else, then came back with another passenger or two, and took off again.

Next up, a DeHavilland Beaver…in and out with no nonsense (and a perfect landing/takeoff).

Hiking in the drizzle…still beautiful!

Dick from Ithaka got his exercise today by volunteering to help Carol and Dan (summer residents who keep their boat, Provider, near Dick’s boat in Seattle over the off season) chopping firewood…some amazing-smelling yellow cedar!

Garry, Mike’s brother on Two’s Out, went off for a solo hike in the back chuck and came back with some fun pics to share with us:

We met on Two’s Out for an early happy hour with some delicious smoked salmon Mike brought (that he picked up from a fishmonger on the dock in Victoria where they live), and then we all moved to Airship for dinner. I made enchiladas (some chicken, some shrimp) and a caesar salad, Patsy on Ithaka made Mexican rice, and Missie from Melissa Lynn brought homemade banana bread for dessert…all delicious.

Our plan tomorrow is to go all the way to Wrangell (50nm). Right now out in Clarence it’s whitecapping and super windy. Exhibit A:

Ship Island is reporting 24kts gusting to 34kts from the SE, and a passing ship just north of us is reporting 5ft waves, so hopefully that dies down as scheduled overnight. The tide is right at high at the moment, so waves are making their way into the chuck and rocking our boat pretty steadily on the dock…looking forward to that dying down as well.
