If you missed having a bunch of photos in yesterday’s post, hold onto yer britches for today because today we’ve got a TON. Here we all are at anchor before heading out this morning:

We saw several humpbacks early along our route today.

Another humpback:

We made it to within a mile of the face of South Sawyer glacier, going mostly regular speed the entire way. Only at the very last bit did we have to pick our way through some bergie bits for a minute. Epic!

We turned the engine off and just floated around for a while, listening to the ice crack, the seals snarfing, and the high pitch of the pigeon guillemots. Kevin took the drone up for some aerials.

Kevin also made a video over South Sawyer glacier that is AMAZING! So fun to see over the top of it!!
Next we headed back to North Sawyer glacier, which we almost always can get in to see.

The sun came out for a short time this afternoon on our way back to Tracy Arm Cove…glorious!

As we approached Williams Cove…more humpbacks (or the same ones from this morning, still eating).
There were salmon jumping and many of this little herring bait balls:
We stopped and floated around with our engine off for some time, watching the whales surface and lunge feed, which was pretty great!
This one popped up right in front of Sound Waves.
Suddenly, the iceberg we were floating near started to turn, and we think maybe this whale bumped it…there were no other boats around and no wakes, so seems likely:

This eagle was going for some herring and got one, but then dropped it. Bummer, buddy!
An incredibly epic day of scenery and wildlife!! We met for happy hour on Airship and shared stories and chatted about our day tomorrow. We’ll cruise up Endicott Arm and hope to see Dawes Glacier before we head back to turn into Ford’s Terror in the afternoon. Super excited for another visit to Ford’s Terror!
