Day 7 | Flotilla to Alaska | Big Frypan Bay to Codville Lagoon

We finally got the “heavy rain” that the forecast has been promising for the past two days. It all came at once — last night! There was (finally!) a break in the rain in the morning as we pulled our anchor and left the bay, and the sun came blazing through.

Our cruise up Fitz Hugh Sound and Fisher Channel was calm and uneventful.

Great Escape in Fitz Hugh Sound

We arrived at Codville Lagoon with only one other boat in the east anchorage. We got settled in, several people put out crab and shrimp traps, and then we all headed to shore to stretch our legs with a hike up to Sagar Lake.

Flora along the hike. We were cautioned to watch for tiny frogs but never saw any.
The trail is a combination of boardwalk and mud and stairs created by tree roots (and contrary to what we thought we remembered…it is not flat, and though short — 1.2km — it’s a little bit of a scramble sometimes).

We walked around for a bit enjoying the scenery (and swatting at the many little flies buzzing around us) and then headed back to the dinghies. Jeanette taking a photo of Shelly and Bob:

Later on, the group got together on Airship for dinner. Tonight was what we like to call “kicked up ramen night” (fancy ramen with lots of toppings). We were all so busy cooking and talking that we forgot to take any photos. Again. But it was colorful and delicious. (The prawn traps we put out brought in 3 spot prawns…not really enough to add to ramen night, so hopefully we’ll get more and come up with something else delicious to do with them soon!)
