Conditions in Clarence Strait this morning were significantly better than they were last night! Two foot chop at most, and about 10kts of wind. We left the dock at Meyers Chuck around 6am.
We had a very easy 50nm cruise to Wrangell today! We even had a few minutes or so of Dall’s porpoises on our bow.
Several boats fueled up over at the fuel dock in Wrangell’s Etolin Harbor, but there was no room at the transient dock for any of us, so we’re all tucked in at Heritage Harbor. About 20 minutes after Airship tied up, a crab boat pulled onto the dock in front of us, and started unloading/cleaning a whole lot of crab. I should have taken a photo earlier, when the giant coolers full of crab were still on the dock, but I was too busy bartering for fresh crab! We haven’t really started crabbing yet (well, we have, but we haven’t gotten any yet), so it’s pretty great to get some this (slightly easier) way!
We came away with five big males, and one went into some crab risotto tonight! Yum!
Some of our group walked in to see town and pick up a few things, but we were feeling a little tired and lazy and stayed on Airship. But we did get to have a great visit with our friend Jan from Nordic Tug Ceci Kay, who is currently heading north like we are, and was on our inaugural Slowboat flotilla to Alaska in 2017…so good to catch up!!
Tomorrow, on to Petersburg!
