Before leaving Lund this morning, we walked up to Nancy’s Bakery for breakfast, bought a loaf of fresh bread to-go, and then stopped in the market for some fresh salad greens and a couple other fresh things we might want in the next couple days before getting back to LaConner. We left around 9am and cruised about 43nm to Smuggler Cove, a Provincial Marine Park we have not been to before. Saw a few sets of humpbacks spouting in the distance, but not close enough for any decent photos.
It’s Friday, and the weather is gorgeous, so we fully expected Smuggler Cove to be (or soon to be) packed with boats, since we’re now back in the land of many people and many boats. It’s not a large anchorage, and stern ties are mandatory, but we easily found a spot and got situated. We set off in the dinghy to do some exploring.
The innermost bay in Smuggler Cove has a shallow entrance, but after checking it out by dinghy, we could easily get back there next time. There was one other boat in there and several easily usable stern tie rings/chains in the rocks along shore. Next time!
There are many nooks and crannies to explore by dinghy or kayak around here!
Back on Airship now…we’ll grill some salmon for dinner tonight and enjoy the weather (and maybe dinner) on the flybridge!
Looking out into the Strait of Georgia from the entrance to Smuggler Cove:
The wind is supposed to pick up tomorrow (NW 25kts) so we’ll just see what things look like in the morning as to whether we leave or stay here another night. From the NW it shouldn’t be bad, but going all the way to Saturna Island (50+ nm) makes it whatever it is for about 7 hours, so we’ll just make the call in the morning!
