This morning’s forecast for our rounding of Cape Caution looked the same as we were expecting. Pine Island and Egg Island both reporting two foot chop and very little wind. Environment Canada for Central Coast from McInnes Island to Pine Island forecasting wind west 5-15kts, seas 1 meter. West Sea Otter buoy reporting 1.3 meters at 11.1 seconds, so a fairly gentle swell, with little to no wind waves. Off we went!

We’d checked the tide for the areas between us and Egg Island and the tide would be low at 4am and flooding until just before 10am, so we expected to potentially have some current against us, but not the ebb from Slingsby against the swells coming in from the Pacific. However, once we were in front of Slingsby Channel, the seas picked up significantly and we had some very steep waves that felt like what we’d expect with an ebb against swell.
In any case, we’re finally past Cape Caution and don’t have to wait another week for the weather to get around, so all in all it was worth it!

We passed many, many otters on our way up Fitz Hugh Sound:

Kali got to Green Island anchorage first and said there were two other boats inside already. Probably still room for us, but we made a last minute call to continue on up to Kwakume Inlet. We’re the only ones here, it’s gray with a light drizzle but beautiful, and we got together on Airship for a late happy hour.
Tomorrow morning we’ll sleep in and make the leisurely cruise up to Codville Lagoon whenever everyone feels like it!
Here are some aerials of our anchorage:
