Airship | Funter Bay to Flynn Cove

We leisured late this morning in Funter Bay and didn’t leave until after 11am. Another gorgeous, sunny day! We watched the F1 race (Belgian Grand Prix, vroom!) and then pulled our anchor and headed out into the mostly glassy Icy Strait toward Flynn Cove. Turnagain left before us and then peeled off to stop in Hoonah and will meet up with us tomorrow in the Inian Islands.

Lots of fishing boats out today, as well as a few Dall’s porpoises who surfed our bow for a bit. I took these photos with my iPhone. The sun was just right on the water and the porpoises were so clear!!

I can’t imagine any better weather!

As we approached the anchorage at Flynn Cove, we had to stop to wait for a few orcas to clear out. (Yay more orcas! Also, wouldn’t it be such a bummer to all of a sudden have to be afraid of orcas while boating up here???)

We dropped the hook in about 50 feet and are currently the only ones here.

Pretty great view of the Fairweathers from here today

While we were underway, Kevin viewed and edited some crab trap 360 camera footage from yesterday in Funter Bay. This is a fun one! A clever (hungry) female Dungeness, and some drama between a couple small Dungies and a gang of flounders! 🙂 (Oh, and we didn’t get any crab on this first drop, but when we pulled the traps this morning before we left Funter, we had two keepers.)

Kevin went out fishing this afternoon/early evening, and I worked on some art (slowly getting back into the swing after a nice break), cooked and picked the crab (fresh crab tostadas for dinner tonight), and read a book. A very nice Sunday afternoon!

The sunset was stunning tonight. Here are a few stills from my iPhone:

What a beautiful evening, and a gorgeous spot, and amazing weather!
