Another sunny day in Ford’s Terror! We’re gonna soak it all up, too, because looking ahead shows a whole bunch of cloudy/rainy days.
This morning’s shrimp trap pull: 50 more coonstripes and one big spot prawn daddy.
When discussing what to do with our fresh Dungeness crab from yesterday at Wood Spit, the words “crab benedict” popped up (one of my favorites!) and so this morning, guess what Taylor made!?? English muffin, heaps of fresh crab meat, perfect poached eggs, perfect hollandaise, and a side of lightly dressed spinach. We’re getting so spoiled!! (It was so good that I’m posting not just one photo of Kevin’s plate, but two!)
This afternoon, Taylor and Kevin went out jigging for whatever might be out there (nothing at all…the only thing that came up on a line was a micro sculpin back off of Airship yesterday) before checking the shrimp traps again. A few years ago we talked to a guy who said he caught a good king salmon right out where the main arm splits off to the east and west arms, but we have seen very little evidence of salmon in here over the years. There are (well, have been) bears frequently at the stream at the head of the west arm, and there are seals and porpoises in here, so there’s got to be something to eat!
This afternoon’s shrimp trap pull: 29 more coonstripes. And a spider crab.
This afternoon we just relaxed and enjoyed the weather and scenery and kept a pretty keen eye out for bears, but still none spotted in here.
Tomorrow, we’ll head back out to Wood Spit so Kevin and Taylor can try for another halibut.
