Day 40 | 2025 Flotilla to Alaska | Pavlof Harbor to Couverden Island Cove

We left early this morning from Pavlof Harbor…5:30am-early. The NOAA forecast said 20kts and 4ft in Northern Chatham — (originally also had gusting to 35kts in the afternoon, but that was downgraded last night) — but the ECMWF model on Windy (well, and all the other models) did not show it getting over 15kts. The NOAA forecasts for Icy Strait and Southern Lynn Canal also didn’t show anything too dramatic, but we figured just in case we’d get up to Couverden early.

Chatham had less than a one foot chop and wind from the south but nothing more than about 10kts. Six or eight Dall’s porpoises surfed our bow for a bit, which was fun, and then we saw a couple humpbacks as we rounded North Passage Point.

We’re anchored now at Couverden Island Cove. It’s raining and had been raining most of the day since we arrived, so we’re all mainly doing inside things today. We watched the Formula One British Grand Prix, took a short nap, and will probably read a book for a bit. Not a lot of photos today.

I made crab tostadas with our recently caught crab and some fresh corn on the cob for dinner tonight. We’ll head to Taku Harbor tomorrow…54nm, so a long run. Ranger Tug IF will stop in Auke Bay for some fuel, and Turnagain will stop in to pick up a part they need to fix their davit!

The forecast looks pretty rainy for the next week or so, but hopefully we’ll get some occasional breaks!
