We left Ketchikan this morning after a quick refresh, reprovision, and celebration dinner for arriving in Alaska – and headed north up Clarence Strait headed for the quaint village of Meyers Chuck.
On the way, we had to dodge cruise ships, floatplanes, ferries, tugboats, sailboats, and other traffic coming and going from Ketchikan’s bustling port. But current was with us and we were soon back in relative solitude for the four hour cruise.
Meyer’s chuck is small community on the point between Clarence Strait and Ernest Sound. It has a nice public dock and picturesque hiking trails that lead to a beautiful rocky beach strewn with driftwood and tide pools.
We’ll likely spend two nights here to avoid some major winds coming through tomorrow, but it’s a great place for a brief weather layover.
We got together for a happy hour on Airship this evening and then back to our respective boats for dinner. We put in an order from Cassy for some hot cinnamon rolls (delivered fresh to our boats in the morning) so that will be a nice treat!
Though it was rainy and gray most of the day, the sun popped out this evening and made for some incredible light!
Wonder what tomorrow’s weather will bring!
