Day 2 | Flotilla to Alaska | Ganges to Clam Bay

This morning we left Ganges a little before the 11am checkout time (after wandering up the hill to a nice bakery).

We’re of course watching the weather forecasts for the Strait of Georgia, and we were greeted this morning with this, for both south and north of Nanaimo.

Waterspouts?? Waterspouts are not on our Flotilla Bingo cards. At all. Next year maybe we should make a limited edition “Catastrophe” version of Flotilla Bingo, just in case. Waterspouts, tsunamis, landslides, sea monsters, what else? Okay maybe not.

Today’s cruise was a short 17nm up to Clam Bay at Thetis Island. Clam Bay is a nice big anchorage with room for many boats, and everyone got settled in nicely.

Adrianne (Fleming Evenstar) and Ralph (DeFever Kali) took some nice photos around the anchorage and said we could share. From Adrianne:

All boats represented, anchored in Clam Bay
Rainbow!
Underwater cuddles

And from Ralph:

Airship and Dog Star rafted, Fleming Evenstar, and a non-flotilla boat in the far back, with rainbow

Everyone met on Airship this evening for a group dinner. It’s always fun at the beginning of the flotilla as people are getting to know each other and connecting. This is a great group (three veteran flotilla boats and three new boats)! Everyone seems happy and excited to be heading north.

Craig took this fun photos of all the dinghies parked out back for grill night on Airship:

Dinghy parking of the stern of Airship! Good thing we got those four new swimstep cleats installed before we left!
Beautiful evening anchored in Clam Bay

Tomorrow: Dodd Narrows and the Strait of Georgia!
