Early (5am!!) departure today, and a long day to boot! We cruised just over 60nm from our anchorage at Tribune Bay up past Campbell River, through Seymour Narrows (timed perfectly, of course), and onto Kanish Bay.

It was a bit lumpy out, with some current against us as we headed north in the Strait of Georgia. We had three-foot wind waves on the bow for four hours or so. Not dangerous, but not the most comfortable, either.

Sometimes it’s really hard to convey how bumpy the conditions are in photos, but we think these two photos of Dog Star captured by Scott on Impulse come close!

We arrived a bit before slack at Seymour Narrows, and were pulled through nicely by the current. There were a few minor whirlpools, eddies, and boils, but nothing that warranted turning off the autopilot. Sometimes there can be large commercial traffic through here. We had one barge with a tug ahead of us (also taking the narrows early) but nothing else of consequence. Very smooth transit.

Kanish Bay is about 7.5nm from Seymour Narrows, and if you go all the way back to Small Inlet it’s another 3nm back in. Normally we anchor just inside Kanish Bay behind the Chained Islands, but either option is great. Two boats opted for the Chained Islands anchorage, and the others ventured further back into Small Inlet.

Ralph and Vincent from Kali got out in the kayak for some exploring!

Several others hit the trail at the head of Small Inlet and hiked over to Waiatt Bay/Octopus Islands.

We’re making some fast miles and looking ahead for a good window to get around Cape Caution. After that, we’ll get to slow down a little!
