Day 15 | 2025 Flotilla to Alaska | Khutze Inlet to Lowe Inlet

We left Khutze Inlet this morning just before 6am for our 55nm cruise to Lowe Inlet. Conditions were pretty much like this the whole day…a little wind, occasional chop, some current with us and some current against us. It’s funny how the perspective changes after a couple weeks on the water as we make miles north. We left this morning before 6am, and when I noticed it was nearing 9am, … Read more

Day 14 | 2025 Flotilla to Alaska | Another Day in Khutze Inlet (Five Bears!)

(Yes, I know, five bears and I lead with a picture of a duck, but isn’t that a cool duck??) This morning we woke to bright sun and blue sky, again. Lovely. We were the only boats in here now, so after breakfast, Kevin took the Mavic Mini* up for a few aerial photos. Today was all about looking for bears! High tide was around 2pm, and at noon we … Read more

Day 13 | 2025 Flotilla to Alaska | Rescue Bay to Khutze Inlet

We left Rescue Bay around 8am this morning…another sunny day with clear blue sky! Feeling pretty lucky the past few days with the weather. Today’s 8am departure saw us through Jackson Narrows about an hour after low tide, so still nice and skinny (for the fun) but plenty of depth under our keels. Airship saw 13ft at the shallowest, and we had a beautiful glassy cruise through Jackson Passage over … Read more

Day 12 | 2024 Flotilla to Alaska | Bottleneck Inlet to Khutze Inlet

We pulled up anchor in Bottleneck Inlet this morning at 7am and headed out into Finlayson Channel for a four-hour cruise up to Khutze Inlet — one of our favorite anchorages on the northern BC coast. We wanted to arrive at Khutze early enough to leave us with plenty of time to explore. We had favorable current the whole way, and dropped anchor around 11am. It was a beautiful, sunny … Read more

Days 11-12 | 2023 Flotilla to Alaska | Rescue Bay to Khutze Inlet

This morning the plan was to transit Jackson Narrows about an hour before low slack…giving us a little more water under the keel and maybe only a slight bit of current against us, but we actually had a little current with us, so apparently it had already turned. We all made it through just fine and it was a fun piloting challenge! The rest of our cruise today through Jackson … Read more

Baker Inlet to Khutze Inlet

Airship and Safe Harbour left Baker Inlet around 6:00 a.m. in order to transit Watts Narrows at low slack. The current was still, and the bright growth visible along the rocky passage at low tide was a colorful addition.  We decided to go all the way to Khutze Inlet (about 76nm). This would make it another long day, but we’d like to be available and nearby since it’s looking like … Read more
