We left Lowe Inlet this morning at 7am after a very windy night at anchor and not a great amount of sleep. We turned north in Grenville Channel and had a couple knots of current against us for the first few miles, that eventually tapered off, as did the rain and gray skies. We had originally planned to go to Kelp Passage today to stage our crossing of Dixon Entrance, but there were strong winds forecast directly through Kelp Passage, which would have made for a miserable evening. We decided instead to go a little further to Prince Rupert – which is a great town and also a perfect jumping off point for the crossing into Alaska.
The last couple hours of our cruise (mainly in Chatham Sound) were bumpy and wet, which we also expected. We had some current with us, but against 15-20kt winds. We were glad for the eventual protection of Prince Rupert Harbour.
Robyn at Cow Bay Marina helped everyone get settled and we did a few errands before heading out for some food cooked not by us!
One of our usual faves when we visit Prince Rupert — Opa Sushi!
We’re optimistic about being able to cross Dixon Entrance into Alaska tomorrow, and will get up early to check the updated forecast and all the reporting stations and buoys we can, and then make the call by 5am. And if it’s not good enough, well then we’ll just hang out in Prince Rupert a bit longer!
