It rained all night, but by morning the rain had stopped and the sky was quiet. Clouds reflected in the smooth mirror of the bay, interrupted occasionally by schools of tiny fish breaking the surface.
The light was soft and we were approaching a low tide, so Kevin went up for some aerial shots.
After drone flying and breakfast, it still wasn’t raining so Kevin and I took the dinghy out to explore and fish a bit.
The whales were still out in front of the bay (in the distance) as we put our gear in the water and headed around the corner toward Samsing Bay. We didn’t catch anything (or get even a bite) — and eventually it started raining and the wind picked up, so after about an hour and a half we went back in. Dead calm inside the bay, and no more rain. We haven’t seen any bears, but we have seen a handful of Sitka black-tailed deer on shore.
Kevin put together this video from footage he took this morning and it really shows what this place feels like. Amazing we’re just 6nm from Sitka!
