Another early morning! We left the dock at Comox at 5am and headed out into the the calm, blue gray morning.

The Comox Bar looks a little tricky, but it’s really not. The depth is at least 15 feet, marked by red buoys, and there’s even a lighted range if you like.

The conditions in the Strait were very pleasant for the cruise up to Campbell River, and by the time we arrived we had maybe two knots of current pushing us along, but nothing too dramatic and getting past the breakwater into Discovery Harbour was drama-free.
Eventually the clouds cleared, the sun came out, and as promised, the wind picked up significantly (15-25kts with gusts to 30kts in our slip!). But sun and blue skies!!
Campbell River has room for us for just one night (the Van Isle 360 sailboat race is stopping here tomorrow night), so in the morning we’ll head north to catch the 9:54am slack at Seymour Narrows, and then conditions will dictate where we go and how far.
Friends north have been having all sorts of “waiting for weather” issues, and Ketchikan broke rain records for the month of May, so hoping our late May departure turns out to be fortunate timing and the overall weather improves. No point rushing to Ketchikan for record-breaking rain, right??
