This morning brought more fog and gray and drizzle, but especially fog. Always good on a day when seiners will be thick along our route, but by the time we left the bay the fog was mostly just a haze, and visibility wasn’t bad at all. There was one packer inside the bay on our way out, and a few seiners in various stages of operation just outside the bay. We avoided the fishing boats and headed a bit offshore to avoid the whole lot.
Looking north up Chatham Strait, it was obvious we should just stay clear of it all as we headed toward Peril Strait. I can’t imagine the stress and competition these guys experience. I think most of these today were outside the Hidden Falls Hatchery area working for Chinook.

Conditions in Chatham were mellow…10kts of wind from the south and a very slight chop but overall felt very calm.

We turned into Peril Strait (and flat water), and spotted several humpbacks along the way.
The entrance to Baby Bear Bay (far right, Airship is the red arrowhead) looks (and can be) tricky to get into. Just go slow, watch your depth (and the kelp marking the rocks).
The sun even popped out briefly in the afternoon (for about a minute, and then it started raining again)!

Kevin took the drone up for a few aerials of the anchorage, and that’s when the rain came back.

Happy Hour on Airship tonight, and tomorrow…into Sitka for a few days!
