The group left Ketchikan this morning around 7am and headed north in Tongass Narrows, avoiding tugs and barges, float planes, fishing boats, and a couple of cruise ships. We opted to pass Meyers Chuck, as cute and as charming as it is, due to limited dock space and our 7 on-the-larger-side boats, but at least one boat poked in to take a look and plans to visit on their way south.
We’re now anchored in Vixen Inlet.

Several folks dropped crab traps…fingers crossed for some bounty! Commercial crabbing season doesn’t open for another couple of weeks, so now’s our best chance!
When the tide was nearing high, we headed out in the dinghies to see how far up the river we could get…which turned out to be pretty far!

This was the end of the line for us…in about a foot of water. Gorgeous afternoon cruise though!

We all met on Airship for a festive happy hour, with sun shining and doors and windows open and people inside and outside — a little less packed when the sun is shining vs. when it’s windy and rainy and everyone has to hunker inside.
Kevin took the drone up the river near low tide…great to see the difference from when we took the dinghies up a few hours before!
And a couple of sunset photos to sign off with:
