This morning at Taku Harbor we had another leisurely morning and didn’t get underway until 10am, after some homemade coffee cake (two kinds! courtesy of Alicia on Evenstar 42) and and espresso drinks courtesy of True Grit.

Our cruise down Stephens Passage to Holkham Bay was easy, and it’s always fun as people start spotting the first icebergs.

As soon as everyone was in and anchored, we headed out in the dinghies to get a closer look at the ice.

Looking back toward all our anchored boats in Tracy Arm Cove:

We made sure to get some drive-by iceberg photos:

The birds were VERY active today…seagulls and eagles, and put on quite a show!

Next up: whales. They were all around us…surfacing, lunge-feeding, and even a distant breach…we didn’t get any of the high drama photos, but we did get a few nice ones. It’s a much different experience being around the whales in dinghies!

I was able to identify two of the whales from these fluke shots. This one below is a female SEAK-0341, first spotted in Hawaii in 1986.

And this one is unnamed, gender unknown, first spotted in Alaska last summer: HW-MN0401590:

After the dinghy excursion we called it a night. Tomorrow, into Tracy Arm to see about a couple of glaciers, hopefully!
