We had a short day today so we slept in, pulled crab traps, and eventually motored out of Snug Cove between 9:00 and 10:00 a.m.
With four people aboard Nereus and several days to go before the next spot to fill the water tanks, Safe Harbour rafted and transferred water before departure. The delay turned out to be serendipitous: as we left Gambier Bay, a small group of orcas blocked our path. We slowly moved south behind them, enjoying the show:
Airship was out earlier and missed the orcas, but got a close visit from a big humpback.
We’d visited Cannery Cove in Pybus Bay on Leg 1, so everyone was familiar with the anchorage. This time, there were a few more boats, but still plenty of room. And even with the smoke, the scenery impresses:
The anchorage was a bit windy, so most of us stayed aboard rather than explore by dinghy. Still, we met on the raft for a fresh halibut dinner with spinach salad, rice pilaf, garlic bread, and fresh brownies and lemon bars to celebrate Craig’s birthday!
