Day 29 | 2024 Flotilla to Alaska | Warm Springs Bay to Takatz Bay

We left Warm Springs Bay this morning around 8am…partially sunny (mostly cloudy) but not raining. We’ll take it! An easy 9nm cruise up to Takatz Bay, another favorite stop. We saw some humpbacks north in the distance, but a little too far to go visit…maybe they’ll be there in the morning! There was one boat here when we arrived, Chichagof Dream, a larger passenger cruise boat, but they usually anchor … Read more

Day 28 | 2024 Flotilla to Alaska | Red Bluff Bay to Warm Springs Bay

Suuuuuuuuuunnnnnnnnn!!!!!! What a gorgeous location to wake up to, and as a bonus, the skies are clearing and the sun is shining. First thing this morning (before coffee, even!) Kevin took the drone up to photograph the exposed shoal. The bright light and shadow areas made things tough in places, but some cool shots came out of it! Days 24-25 | Flotilla to Alaska | Warm Springs Bay to Takatz Bay

Occasionally, though, it’s nice to catch … Read more

The water was reasonably calm, though, and the Baranof Island shoreline is so mountainous, rugged, and snow-capped that the lack of wildlife didn’t matter. We just focused our attention on the scenery. Usually we can squeeze in somewhere on … Read more

Day 30 | Flotilla to Alaska | Red Bluff Bay to Warm Springs Bay

Red Bluff Bay to Warm Springs Bay is about 21nm, straight up Chatham Strait. As we mentioned yesterday, Chatham Strait can be challenging, and even 10-15 knots of wind can make for a bumpy ride. But we emerged from Red Bluff Bay to find another calm and glassy day on Chatham. Safe Harbour and Airship (and Jester, because he’s an early bird) headed out just before 7:00 a.m. The dock … Read more
