Wind and rain buffeted our boats overnight in Appleton Cove, but this morning the wind had died down somewhat, and the rain had mainly stopped as we pulled anchors and headed for Sitka. We pulled out of Hanus Bay late yesterday morning and headed east in Peril Strait, spotting this one humpback along the shore as we cruised past. We left Klag Bay day before yesterday (Saturday) expecting 3ft swells at about 6-7 seconds, but conditions outside were a bit sportier than advertised. Not terrible, but more like 4-5ft at about 5-6 seconds, with the occasional set of steeper, closer together 5-6 footers. This morning brought more fog and gray and drizzle, but especially fog. Always good on a day when seiners will be thick along our route, but by the time we left the bay the fog was mostly just a haze, and visibility wasn’t bad at all. We hung out for a few days in Sitka while waiting for Kevin’s brother Craig to join us. We made pizza one night that turned out super good. Chatham Strait this morning was a little rolly but not bad at all — some swells from the south opposing a little current from the north caused a bit of surfing, but it was gentle and manageable.
