Day 14 | Flotilla to Alaska | Lowe Inlet to Prince Rupert

Today we made our way from Lowe Inlet up the remainder of Grenville Channel to Prince Rupert, our last stop in BC before we attempt to cross Dixon Entrance into Alaska. It was smooth sailing, and a couple of boats had a guest raven aboard for part of the journey. We arrived at Prince Rupert and tied up at the Prince Rupert Rowing and Yacht Club. The crew at PRRYC … Read more

Airship | Dixon Entrance, Prince Rupert, Newcombe Harbour, Monckton Inlet

Our plan was to wait until conditions looked nice and calm on Monday to leave Foggy Bay and cross Dixon Entrance into BC. Saturday we saw some 35kt gusts inside Foggy Bay, but the anchorage is well protected and we were completely comfortable. On Sunday, the conditions looked a little choppy but overall fine, and the light station weather reports were reasonable, so we decided to head out a day … Read more

Day 18 | 2025 Flotilla to Alaska | Prince Rupert to Pond Bay

Conditions this morning for Dixon Entrance still looked fantastic, so we were off the docks by 5am. Turns out, we weren’t the only ones. This is what happens when the weather window is as good as it was today (and yesterday): We transited Venn Passage, a twisty but nicely marked channel, calm in the early morning (in theory), but small fishing charter boats zooming past on either side add a … Read more

Day 17 | 2025 Flotilla to Alaska | Baker Inlet to Prince Rupert

We woke to a gorgeous, peaceful morning in Baker Inlet. Zero wind, glassy water, and blue sky! I went out on the deck to take photos of the other boats. DeAnne on Turnagain reciprocated and sent us this one! There was some great color lining the walls of Watts Passage as we transited at low tide…fun to see all the anemones all closed up and waiting for water. We emerged … Read more

Airship and Akeeva | Heading South: Ketchikan to Campbell River

Airship and Akeeva connected back in Ketchikan earlier this month with the plan to head south together for a ways. Sam and Anna were back from their adventure on Akeeva up to Prince William Sound, and after transiting through British Columbia they’ll continue south to Mexico for the winter. Kevin and I plan to slow up a little bit through B.C. to enjoy a few spots we missed on the … Read more

Day 7 | Alaska Flotilla Leg 4 | Prince Rupert to Captain Cove

We’d hoped for a lazy morning in Prince Rupert—time to catch up on a few more chores or go out for breakfast, perhaps—but the weather conspired against us. More accurately, the forecast conspired against us. Windy predicted southerly wind near 20 knots by mid-afternoon at the confluence of Ogden Channel, Grenville Channel, and Arthur Passage. A few years ago, we’d been in the same area with slightly more wind and … Read more

Day 6 | Alaska Flotilla Leg 4 | Foggy Bay to Prince Rupert

Goodbye Alaska! We’ve had a great couple months wandering around Southeast—the best weather we can remember (except for that one week of smoke), excellent bear and whale watching, and just a few boat gremlins—but in order to have a leisurely trip down the outside of Vancouver Island with decent weather, it’s time to head south. NOAA predicted 10 knot winds and Environment Canada said wind light. Windy showed single digit … Read more
